Poetry Editor: Our Poetry Editors will read and evaluate poetry submissions in close communication with the rest of the editorial team and leadership. We are looking for well-read individuals passionate about the possibilities of poetry, and especially encourage individuals with experience in visual or experimental poetry to apply. Poetry Editors will also be asked to edit and copy-edit pieces for publication. This role will take around two hours weekly regularly, but responsibilities may increase up to five hours per week during contest reading periods and in the weeks preceding issue release.
Prose Editor: Our Prose Editors will read and evaluate fiction and creative non-fiction submissions in close communication with the rest of the editorial team and leadership. We are looking for experienced editors passionate about the power of stories, essays, and narrative. Prose Editors will also be asked to edit and copy-edit pieces for publication. This role will take around two hours weekly regularly, but responsibilities may increase up to five hours per week during contest reading periods and in the weeks preceding issue release.
Art Editor: Our Art Editors will evaluate art submissions in close communication with the rest of the editorial team and leadership. Art Editors will additionally solicit work from visual artists, musicians, and performance artists. We are looking for artists from diverse backgrounds who can contribute a unique perspective to Surging Tide's aesthetic vision. This role will take around two hours weekly regularly.
Staff Writer: Our Staff Writers will write pieces to be published alongside each issue. These pieces can include reviews, Op-Eds, craft essays, and anything else. Staff Writers will also editing each others' pieces while in close communication with leadership. The time commitment of this role is flexible and may vary; we ask that each Staff Writer contribute 3 pieces annually.
Interview Columnist: Our Interview Columnist will continue Surging Tide's Interview Column which seeks to highlight the work of interdisciplinary BIPOC writers and artists. Interview Columnists will communicate with writers and artists to set up live and email interviews and help to publicize interviews on social media. This role will take around 3 hours weekly. Please note that this position is available to BIPOC only.
