Surging Tide curates for work that is daring, unapologetic, and unforgettable. We publish 3 issues annually, from and we read on a rolling basis all year long.
During our Summer Contest, which runs from July 1st to July 31st, we are open to both regular submissions and and contest submissions. We particularly encourage BIPOC and underrepresented authors and writers to share their work. We welcome the celestial and ethereal. The striking and luminous. The surge in the tide. Please send all work using the Regular Submissions Box on the right. Include a cover letter with trigger warnings and a short 50-word third-person biography. All unsolicited submissions are judged anonymously, and please ensure that your file attachment has no identifying details. Simultaneous submissions are accepted provided that they are indicated as such and immediately withdrawn if accepted elsewhere. We aim to respond with 2-4 weeks, but please be patient with us as we are student-led; you can query if you haven't received a response within two months.
We also offer expedited submissions, where we will reply with a decision within the next 36 hours. Please donate $5 to our GoFundMe using the same name you use in your submission. Select Yes to "Is this an expedited submission" on the form. Poetry: Send up to five poems in one .pdf. Poems of all forms and subject matter are welcome. Send visual poems in .jpg form.
Prose: Send up to two pieces (e.g. flash, short story, nonfiction, lyric essay), with an 8000 word limit across pieces. These should be double spaced, in a standard 11 or 12 pt font, and attached as one .pdf. Visual Art: Send up to five pieces as a .png, .jpeg, or .gif file. Include the medium, dimensions, and if applicable, the artists' statement in the cover letter. Performance Art: Email surgingtidemag@gmail.com with a cover letter. Send up to three youtube links (spoken word, dance, drama) in the body of your email. Music: Send up to three audio files (compositions, covers, duets) in .mp3 or .wav form. Note: for writing submissions, we take .pdf files exclusively. Do not send your submissions as a word document. Please keep this in mind or we may not be able to read your submission. If the above file formats are inaccessible (you are unable to convert your work into the preferred formats), you may email your work to surgingtidemag@gmail.com. |
