Editor's Note

We're so thrilled to present to you Surging Tide Issue 10. This is our last issue that we've created together as Editors-in-Chiefs, and it's truly a bittersweet moment as we reflect on our time working with this community. It's been nearly a year since we took over from the magazine's founder, Emma Miao, and working for Surging Tide has been one of the highlights of our artistic careers, even through our late-night three hour meetings.

We've gone through a lot of changes this summer, especially as we've been having conversations about our place in the writing world and the sustainability of online literary magazines—how to preserve and advance the institutional memory of the work we've done. We hope that you will continue supporting us as we go through this moment of transition: you'll also notice that our website and issues have a new look. On that note, we're also so excited to welcome our new Editor-in-Chief, Fiona Jin!

As part of our second annual summer contest, we want to highlight the work of Farai Chaka, whose poem "Ancestor on the Death of a Rhodesian Soldier" was selected by Hua Xi as the winner of the poetry category, and Sandra Nuochen, whose short story "Into Flames" was selected by aureleo sans as the winner of the prose category. Congratulations to our runners-up, our shortlisted and longlisted writers, and a huge thank you to all who submitted! 

Even now as we've both entered college, we can't wait to see how the magazine grows. We're looking to the future of this magazine with excitement—as lovers of art, as a community of lovers. Thank you to everyone.
