The first piece emphasizes linear elements and structure, while the second focuses on what tonal contrast has to offer to depth. Descriptive Geometry, Oyster MushroomLead on Bristol, 18" by 24" This was a study of compound curvature and perspective projection. The exposed sections were pulled out, omitting hidden information behind the cutting plane Scenes 01Charcoal on Paper 24" by 36" This piece narrates a glimpse of a hazy memory. Three separate scenes are layered and locked into each other with their common view point. Scenes 02Charcoal on Paper 24" by 36" This was an attempt to synchronize 6 separate scenes from artist’s memory onto one viewing plane. The perspectives of each imagery inform the main view reference point, the light source, which is shared at the exact point regardless of change in scenery. Scenes 03Charcoal on Paper 36" by 48" The last piece being the resolution of the first two pieces, the drawing focused on the precision of tone and contrast. Artist worked to employ emotion representation that engage and immerse viewers whilst distancing themselves from real life. Fengyi (Elaine) Lu currently studies architecture at the Cooper Union. She works with descriptive graphics of form, as well as precise spatial logic in her drawings.
